On The Go: Broadcasting From Anywhere
On The Go is for the shows you present away from the studio — the outside broadcast at the summer fair, the match, the charity day, the show you do from a hotel room while you're away.
You present it in RadioHost Live, the broadcasting app. Your website does the rest by itself: a badge lights up while you're on air, listeners hear you instead of the usual programme, and when you finish, the show is published to your site on its own page.
You connect the two once. After that there's nothing to switch on before a show and nothing to upload afterwards.
What your listeners see
While you're on air:
- An ON THE GO badge appears in your navigation, on every page of your site, with a gently pulsing dot. It shows up on its own — nobody has to refresh the page.
- Your On The Go page shows the name of the show you're presenting and a Listen now button.
- Anyone who presses play anywhere on your site hears your broadcast, not the usual programme.
After you finish:
- The badge disappears and the page goes back to saying the main programme is on air.
- The show you just did appears in Past shows, with its own page listeners can play, share and come back to.
Setting it up
Two steps, once. Have both your website dashboard and RadioHost Live open.
1. Turn the feature on
In your website dashboard, go to Settings → Features and switch on On The Go. Save.
Until this is on, nothing appears publicly — even while you're broadcasting.
2. Connect RadioHost Live
In your website dashboard, open On The Go from the menu. At the top you'll find Connect RadioHost Live with two things:
- Your site address — press Copy
- Connection key — press Copy (press Show first if you'd like to see it)
Now open RadioHost Live, go to your dashboard, and find the Your website panel. Paste your site address into the first box, the connection key into the second, and press Connect.
That's it. Back on your website, the On The Go page will now say Connected, with the date you linked them.
Checking it worked
The On The Go page shows you two things at a glance:
- Status — Connected, and when you linked it
- On air now — Yes and the name of the show while you're broadcasting, No the rest of the time
Start a show in the app and watch On air now change to Yes. If it does, everything is working.
After the show
Your finished broadcast appears under Past shows within a few minutes. While the audio is being copied across you'll see Copying… next to it, and Ready once it's done.
RadioHost Live only tells us the show's title. Everything that makes the page worth finding is added by you, and it takes a minute:
- Description — this is what people see in Google results and when the page is shared
- Artwork — an image for the show
- Host — the presenter, picked from your DJs and hosts
- Category — if you've created any (see below)
- URL slug — the web address of the page, if you want to tidy it up
Press Save and the page updates on your site straight away.
Every show is Published by default. Uncheck Published to take one off your site while keeping it in your dashboard — useful if a broadcast didn't go to plan.
Organising your shows
After a year of broadcasts, one long list gets hard to browse. Categories turn into filter buttons on your public page — Outside Broadcasts, Interviews, Live Sessions, whatever suits you.
Create them at the top of the On The Go page, drag them into the order you want, then pick a category for each show when you edit it. Each category gets its own web address, so you can link straight to one from social media.
Renaming the section
On The Go is just the default name. If your station calls these shows something else — Roadshow, Outside Broadcasts, Live & Local — put your name in Section Title Override at the top of the page.
It changes everywhere: your navigation, the footer and the page heading, in every language your site is published in.
Playing shows from the list
By default, each line in your public list opens that show's own page, and that's where people listen — so they see the artwork, the description and the host.
If you'd rather listeners could play a show straight from the list, switch on Play shows straight from the list under Archive list. It's quicker to sample a show that way, though most visitors then never reach its page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need RadioHost Live to use this?
Yes. On The Go is how RadioHost Live publishes to your website. Without the app there's nothing to connect, and the feature stays hidden.
Does it cost extra?
Not on the website side — it's included in your plan. RadioHost Live is a separate app with its own subscription.
My badge isn't showing while I'm on air
Check three things, in this order: On The Go is switched on in Settings → Features; the On The Go page says Connected; and On air now says Yes while you're broadcasting. Whichever one is wrong tells you where the problem is.
I generated a new connection key and everything stopped
That's expected. A new key replaces the old one, so RadioHost Live is disconnected until you paste the new key into the app's Your website panel. Only generate a new key if you think someone else has the old one.
How long after my show does the page appear?
A few minutes. Longer shows take longer to copy across — you'll see Copying… while that's happening.
Can I edit the show's title?
Yes. The title comes from whatever you called the show in RadioHost Live, and you can change it here afterwards along with everything else.
What happens to my normal programme while I'm on air?
It carries on. Your listeners simply hear your On The Go broadcast instead for as long as it runs, and go back to the usual programme the moment you finish.
Can I delete a show?
Yes, from its edit panel. That removes the page and our copy of the audio. RadioHost Live still has its own copy of the recording, but nothing on your website can be recovered unless you send it across again.
Do these pages show up on Google?
They can, and that's rather the point — each show gets its own page and address. Give every show a real description, and they'll be picked up like any other page on your site.
